5 Ways To Turn Your Hobby Into A Side Hustle

5 Ways To Turn Your Hobby Into A Side Hustle Hobby or #SideHustle? With so much going on in our days, finding time for hobbies can be impossible. But what if you could make real money off of your side passion for photography or crafting? Here are 5 simple ways to turn your creative hobby into a side hustle. 1. Sell Physical Goods Try your hand at selling homemade goods in a creative marketplace like Etsy or create your own shop through a service like Big Cartel. If you’re a pattern designer, you can apply your pattern to notebooks, t-shirts, or coffee mugs. If you’re a hand-letterer, you can calligraph movie quotes or poems. Whether you’re a writer, a DIY-er, or a fashionista, you can use your skill to create something someone would loveâ€"and buy. 2. Sell Digital Goods If you don’t want to deal with bubble wrap and shipping labels, you can also try selling digital goods. You can sell your photography to stock photo sites like Shutterstock,  or upload your designs to marketplaces like Society6, which allow customers to apply your designs to physical things like rugs and duvet covers. You could also sell a set of icons, vector graphics, or your own typeface on marketplaces like Visual Hierarchy. The possibilities are nearly endless. 3. Teach Online Did you know you can make money not just from selling goods, but just showing others how you make them? Online teaching sites like Skillshare are a great way to earn supplemental income by sharing what you already love to do; whether it’s baking your grandma’s apple pie or building your Instagram following. Since classes are made of short 10-25 minute videos, you can even make them from your living room. 4. Start A Blog Starting a new blog isn’t an immediate money-maker, but has a two-fold benefit. One, it allows you to become a thought leader in your space. Two, over time and with a healthy amount of traffic, you can earn revenue through ad-clicks. You can easily start a blog on platforms like Tumblr or WordPress. If you already have a blog, you may want to try guest blogging on bigger sites. The amount you can earn varies per site, but can be substantial. This is also a great way to drive new traffic to your own blog or siteâ€"which hopefully means new clients. 5. Write an E-Book Take your writing skills a step further and try writing your own e-book. Your e-book could be a compilation of blog posts, or you could write on current design trends and techniques, or you could write something more abstract and theoretical. An e-book, like a blog, is also great for your credibility as a freelancer. Plus, platforms like Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing make it easy to publish.

Great Advice and Book Giveaway for New College Grads!

Great Advice and Book Giveaway for New College Grads! It hit me last weekend that it has been exactly 3 years since I graduated college. I cannot believe how much my life has changed. I think it took me the whole 3 years to really get used to this whole college is over, youre officially an adult thing. With that being said, graduating college comes with a lot of new responsibilities, bills and bizarre scenarios that you have most likely not had to deal with yet. I wish I wouldve had Kathryn Marions new book: Grads Take Charge a few years ago. The book is filled with awesome REAL advice you can use, including snippets from awesome young bloggers who can relate (including me!). Order your copy of the book at QwikSmarts.com. Ill be giving away a copy of the book to one person who leaves a comment on this post. What are your biggest post-graduation fears? What are you most excited about? Do you feel that college prepared you for the real world? Lets hear it people! In the meantime, here are 2 questions submitted by Ms. Career Girl readers which I sent to author Kathryn Marion to answer. I hope you find them helpful! I want to move to Chicago after graduation but I dont have a job yet. It seems like job searching would be much easier if I was already living in Chicago, rather than in Ohio where I live now. What would you recommend? -It can be easier conducting a job search when youre local, but moving before securing a job can be dangerous. There are a lot of expenses involved in the move itself and if you sign an apartment lease, youll either be limiting yourself to look for jobs within a very small radius of that building or locking yourself into a long commute if the job you eventually land is across town. -Another strategy, that would give you more flexibility, is to network from where you are right now to find a place in Chiacgo to stay temporarily. Ask relatives, friends, your parents friends, your alumni association, your online network through LinkedIn or Facebook, professors, and advisors. Find contacts in Chicago through professional associations, local churches and synagogues, and craigslist (with caution; ere on the side of safety). -If that turns up nothing, consider setting up shop in a hostel. Its inexpensive; youll meet new people, and it keeps life simple because youll take only the bare necessities with you. Once you land a job, youll know which part of town to search for more permanent housing without having wasted money and effort on moving everything ahead of time. -If making a partial move like this isnt appealing to you, then I would recommend that you stay put in Ohio and conduct your job search from there. Theres no reason why you cant start networking online and over the phone with Chicago-based classmates, friends, and alumni. Staying at home will give you the maximum free time to conduct your search because you wont be busy with moving hassles, plus youre comfortable where you are and that will come across in your communications. New-city stress may come out negatively in interviews; this way you can avoid that altogether. I graduated college with about $7,000 in credit card debt and my new job isnt exactly the highest paying gig. How should I start tackling my credit card debt while not getting into MORE debt? Congratulations on taking your financial health seriously-too few young people do these days. You need to treat your credit score like gold from here on out, so not getting into more debt that you may struggle to pay back is very wise. -First, head off additional debt by putting your credit cards away, using cash or checks for everything, and not making big purchases, like a car. Its a bit more of a hassle to write a check than swipe a card, but you can feel safe doing it if youre diligent in keeping track of your balance. Cars and expensive furniture can wait until youre on firm footing again. You may want those trappings of the young professional life, but they will be like iron shackles around your ankles for years to come. -Next, you need to pay more than the minimum each month in order to whittle the balance down, so youll have to keep your other expenses down to free up that cash. Housing is usually a new grads largest expense, so thats where to look first. Living at home or with a relative is the least expensive and can help you make a lot of progress on that credit card in a short time. If thats not an option, I would go for the least expensive housing situation you can find: house sitting, renting a room rather than a whole apartment, sharing a place with a group, or even a hostel. Making the sacrifice now will pay huge dividends in getting you debt-free. The experience itself can open your eyes to whats truly important to you and prepare you to make much wiser financial choices in the future. -Once youve experienced debt-free living, you wont want to go back to racking up debt with credit cards and loans anymore. Use a credit card for a few purchases a month (maybe only for groceries and gas) and pay it off at the end of the month, on time. Never carry a balance again and watch that all-important credit score increase as time goes on. Later, when youre ready to buy a house or car, youll be rewarded with the lowest interest rates around, savings you tens of thousands of dollars over the long haul. To order a print copy of Take Charge! for 25% off, use coupon code MSCG25.   Otherwise, the e-book is free through May!   For great tips, articles and info for recent college grads, follow Kathryn on Twitter: @RealSolutions22.

TGI Monday How to Start Every Week Positively

TGI Monday How to Start Every Week Positively It must have been a slow day in the office. Back in 2005, the stalwart of statistics Gallup decided to quiz people about their favourite day of the week. To absolutely nobody’s surprise, Monday came in dead last, with 7 in 10 working adults calling it the worst. Unfortunately, Mondays are here to stay. Fortunately, with a couple of little mood-boosting tricks, almost anyone can be made to love them: Wear a Kick-Ass Outfit Everyone feels fabulous when dressed up to the nines, and this mood-boost isn’t a figment of our shopaholic imagination. It turns out that you really are what you wear. Putting on more formal clothing, for example, has been shown by several studies to enhance cognitive processing. And colour psychology is a real thing: wearing blue tends to make people better at creative tasks, and red clothing improves their skills at detail-orientated assignments. Make Plans Even if you love your job, the familiarity of it means you rarely look forward to getting up for it on Monday morning. So, organise something you will look forward to. Whether it’s a dinner date at a cute new restaurant or catching up with some old friends, the anticipation of it will get you out of bed smiling! Exercise You might not want to hear it, but the evidence is too overwhelming to be ignored. Exercise is so good for you. It boosts your energy levels, it makes you smarter, and it’s so effective at making you happy that it’s used as a treatment for clinical depression. Working out first thing on a Monday morning might sound hellish, but it’ll leave you feeling positive for the rest of the day. The trick is simply to find a type of exercise that you love. Set a Mini-Goal Achievement feels great. Aim to make progress on a personal goal each day and you’ll be happier for it. Avoid ill-defined or over-ambitious goals (like “get fit” or “finish my novel”). Instead, pick one small, measurable goal that you could easily achieve by expending a little effort. (Think: “Attend Zumba class” or “write 10 pages of my novel”). Small goals keep you on track, and soon add up to big ones! Have a Morning Playlist Music has such a significant impact on our psyche, that blasting some great tunes first thing on a Monday morning is certain to put you in a positive mood. Make a playlist over the weekend of your favourite upbeat tracks, and play it while you’re getting ready for work. (Sleeping partner or roommate? That’s what wireless headphones are for!) Be sure to have a bit of a boogie as you do so â€" dancing makes us feel good and improves our creativity. Turn Off Your Phone Alerts Be honest with yourself: are you likely to receive any message on a Monday morning that will make you happy? If the answer isn’t “yes, Idris Elba may text me”, then turn your phone off. Work emails and/or pestering messages from your mother can be dealt with later. Put aside this morning time for yourself, and make sure its free of negative and irksome distractions. Doing so will enable you to get into a positive headspace, meaning you can start work calm and ready to face the day. How to Make the Most of Your Free Time at Work

How to Make the Most of Your Free Time at Work We all lead a very busy life where a majority of the time goes into working at our jobs. It is difficult to find time for ourselves after office hours; it almost feels like a dream when a client cancels at the last minute or a meeting is rescheduled for some other day or you find that there are fewer tasks on your plate than usual. We often dream about having some downtime at work but don’t know how to utilize the free time when we actually do have some in our hands.Photo Credit â€" Pixabay.comDon’t waste it staring blankly at your computer screen. Instead utilize this time productively in a way it benefits you not just in building your career in the long run but also rewards you instantly.evalHere are some of the ways in which you can make the most of your free time at work:1. Ask for additional workWhen on a busy schedule, we usually pass on some projects that we feel are beyond our current skill set and knowledge. We do so because we know it will take longer than usual to finis h such projects. Chances are some of these projects might still be with your boss. So, the next time you find some free time at work, reach out to your boss and ask him to let you have a look at some of the pending tasks. It will allow you to spend some time researching and come up with a solution as to how you can complete a particular task. Your boss will thank you for helping him / her out. Also, you will end up learning something new.2. Expand your knowledge and skill setIf you always wanted to enroll yourself for a certification, course or a higher degree for a long time, now is the right time. However, do keep your boss informed about your intentions so that s/he keeps the workload light once your education starts. For example, those who may be currently involved in content marketing can think of expanding their knowledge in various other tools of digital marketing. You can even seek permission to attend events, seminar or participate in webinars related to the field. Not only wi ll it prepare you for a better role in the digital marketing field but you will also feel happy for utilizing your free time in a productive manner.3. Revamp your CVYou may not be looking for a job change but that shouldn’t stop you from updating your CV. You never know when a good opportunity comes by. A professional should always keep an eye on good opportunities and be prepared to apply for the same.evalKeeping your CV updated is one way of being prepared. When we are working in an organization for long, we don’t realize how greatly our job role evolves. We only come to notice it once we sit down to update our CVs.To avoid leaving things for the last minute, make it a habit of updating the document on a regular basis. It will compel you to stay updated about the latest CV writing trends also.4. Touch base with your colleagues / ex-colleaguesOften professionals find it difficult to network. It feels more like a task to them. Something they would rather not take up. However, it is important to touch base with people in your network so that you know how they are and what they are doing.Getting in touch with your colleagues and ex-colleagues only when you are looking for a job is not a good practice to follow. You will never be able to build solid relations with them.evalEngaging with them on a regular basis, exchanging knowledge and sharing your views on industry related topics will help you stay updated and fostering solid relationships with your colleagues/ex-colleagues will come naturally.5. Do something you always wanted toIt is not necessary to always keep yourself involved with work related things only. It is perfectly okay to get involved with things you always wanted to do apart from work. Volunteer for a cause your organization supports. Leave office on time to spend it with your family and friends.Join a gym or enroll yourself for a hobby class you always wanted to attend. Taking your mind off from work once in a while only makes you more product ive. So, don’t think twice before indulging in some ‘me-time’.The time that has gone will never come back. However, how you spend your time in the present will shape your future. If you wish to see yourself as a happy individual and a successful professional, follow the above-mentioned tips.If you have some tips of your own, do share with us in the comments section below.

And, I am sharing the details of our honeymoon trip to Hokkaido, Japan, a place that was definitely sub-zero in temperature when we visited!First, a Quick Life UpdateFor those of you who follow me on Instagram, perhaps you have caught me mention here and there about my walking away from my full-time job in this February. And yes, I did! In the best way possible, I kissed goodbye my 8-year tenure in corporate America. I still am working for my last employer on a project/contract basis, so I am definitely still on good terms with them. More on this subject later this month (or April). I am sure you are very curious! As of now, I am just getting used to calling myself a full-time blogger.Packing for a Trip in Sub-Zero TemperatureBut in today’s post, I’d like to talk to you about ho w to pack and dress for a trip in sub-zero temperature! It’s a bit belated, yes. After all, spring is like, literally just the corner. OK, I stand corrected. Today is the first day of Spring upon a few seconds of Googling. If you live in the southern hemisphere and are contemplating still visiting the snowboarding/skiing mecca in Asia â€" Hokkaido, you still might find this article helpful! To make the process informative and easy to understand, I’ve created my first ever Youtube video. GASP. Yes… I’ve talked about forraying into video making the whole Youtube thing for years and I’ve FINALLY taken the plunge and made a little bit of something! If you want to know what the must-have gears and clothing you have to bring with you  when you go on a trip to sub-zero and snowing temperature,  click on the 2-minute video below!A quick summary if you don’t want to watch the 2-minute video:A trusted hat to protect your head from snowA scarf to cover up the space between your chin and the opening of the jacketA pair of snow boots with strong traction and grip so you don’t trip and fall on the snowed-in ground,A down feather, insulating jacket to keep your body warm, and lastlyA pair of gloves to keep your hands warm! Our Honeymoon Second Visit to Hokkaido, JapanIf you’ve been a reader long enough (like 2-year long), you may recall that Hokkaido was where my then-boyfriend proposed to me in 2016! Yes, we loved Hokkaido and the snowboarding experience there we had to return to it 2 years later as part of our honeymoon trip. I have to say, Hokkaido was every bit as amazing as we remembered it to be â€" the food, the snow, the snowboarding, the resort… ah, I can go on and on and on. Here, without further ado, are the highlights from our honeymoon trip to Hokkaido Japan!Replicating our proposal scene:One of the things that I deeply regret (well I can’t really regret it because it wasn’t my choice, to begin with) was the fact that 2 years ago, his proposal was not captured on camera! So this time we had the opportunity to return to this amazing park in the city of Sapporo, Maruyama Park, I just had to attempt to re-enact the day of the proposal. LOL!  Our two favorite foods in Hokkaido: Niseko cheese tarts and Takahashi yogurtTaking advantage of the beautiful natural light everywhere…because of snow! The best, I MEAN THE BEST KAITEN SUSHI EVER Hokkaido was actually the second half of our honeymoon, following a few days of stay in Maui. And you guessed it… that will be in the next blog post! Until then… have a great Tuesday, guys!!
